I wanted to get out backpacking this weekend and decided on a very remote hike out at the Grand Canyon. Called the rangers… roads were good, dogs were kosher… but all of a sudden, I changed my mind. Let’s go to the Escalante River! And off we went in the opposite direction…
And what a perfect decision that was! We didn’t see a soul, the weather was grand, water abundant, and no rattlesnakes came out to play (I will forever associate Escalante with rattlers). We found petroglyphs, ate Tasty Bites, and enjoyed the most perfect campsite I may have ever come across. We took it easy, not hiking very far, but an afternoon nap and the night sky made for an epic trip, in its own quiet way.
