staring at the sun

I went hiking last night with 24 dogs. Yes, 24. I took along my long lens, but I didn’t end up taking many photos. Despite the large number of dogs, nothing was really inspiring me out there… until I saw these dogs running right across the sun. I quickly focused on them, but I could hardly see anything. The sun was so blinding as it flared into the glass. I took a couple shots, then worrying the exposure would be off, upped the settings a little more to be safe. When I sat down to look at the photos this morning, I found it was so much more awesome than I expected… a perfect rainbow burned into the frame. Lens flares are totally cliche, but sometimes, a little magic happens.

Linda Bo - Nothing “cliche” about that photo!

Molly - favorites are 2, 4, 5, 6, 9. i really like them in a major way, can’t believe you weren’t thrilled with them.
are you experimenting w/ layouts again?

Sarah - You know I’m way too critical of my stuff (the same way you were with all your river stuff today… I liked a bunch of them!). I wasn’t even going to post any of these extra shots, but figured I should get over it and give people more cute photos to look at (I don’t think they totally suck, but DEFINITELY could have been better). And yes, experimenting… discovered I can do all this IN my template, without any need for external programs or websites (ie Flickr, Soundslides, etc) anymore… BIG WIN. I always make things so complicated.

Mark - It’s really what you do with the lens flare. I like that one a lot even though if I try, I could see ways it might of been better.
Maybe if there had been a single dog heading out of the curve. Mirror direction the one trotting dog on right without the others, but I’m not sure and think it’s a great shot as is.

#9 is probably my favorite. The dog is waiting for the drinks to arrive I think.

Sarah - I’m really happy with the flare shot. I’m not going to get upset at myself over things I can’t control, such as where/when the dogs are running. Would it have been cooler with a single dog? Yes, methinks… but it didn’t happen, so I don’t really care. It’s the other shots that I think could have been better… it’s a game of trying to push myself each time I go hike out there. I’ve hiked this area a million times, and it’s way too easy to take the same type of shots I’ve already taken a million times before. That’s when I tell myself to stop being so lazy and go try something different. The tank was perfect for this, but (un)fortunately, I was too busy tossing my own dogs in and trying to teach them to swim! Ha!

Terrah - haha. well, I am sure you know how I feel about all this… LOVE IT. FREAKING LOVE IT. I like it when you post more photos than the ones YOU think are perfect, because it is the moment that is captured and awesome and sometimes a blurry photo or whatever – who cares!

eric - Really great work. If only you had a venue to display this work to hundreds of thousands of—HEY!
