Last month, when I was out taking these photos at the north end of the great salty lake, I immediately regretted not bringing the dogs. But, we were in someone else’s car and there just wasn’t any more room for two wet, filthy mutts. So I knew my next trip north would include taking the dogs to play in the salt. Unfortunately, that great spot out on Gunnison Bay is incredibly remote and my little car just won’t make it out there. So this weekend, when I was in town for less than 48 hours, we made a quicker trip out to the less salty, more polluted, but still pretty area at Black Rock. The dogs romped in the water, foamed at the mouth when they attempted to drink it, and didn’t let the billions of brine flies ruin our beautiful sunset. The only downside to it all was when they decided to roll in a rotting bog of fly larvae and who knows what. But what great adventure doesn’t end with an impromptu 10 p.m. hose down? They loved their stink and I love the photos, so in the end, we all won.
