about me

Hey everybody, and welcome to my little corner of the interweb! My name is Sarah Ause, and when you smash those two words together, you get the name of this website, my nickname since the first grade. I’m a full-time critter photographer, and I really don’t think anything could be more fun. A newspaper photojournalist in my previous life, I traded in my press pass for an all-access puppy pass two years ago when I jumped ship to go work for a non-profit animal rescue organization, Best Friends Animal Society, instead. Since then, I’ve been continuously overdosed with cuteness, getting my daily fill of puppy kisses, kitty scratches, and miscellaneous critter love while I take photos, and sometimes write, for our magazine. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it!

When I’m not working, I’m still photographing, usually while out hiking with my trusty sidekicks: a pointy-headed puppy dog from Ethiopia and a loyal cattle dog found on the Arizona Strip. Completely outside photography (and therefore animals and the outdoors), my interests include (but are not limited to) public radio, yoga, finding and revamping thrift store home decor, and watching Dexter. I live in the southern Utah desert with way too many animals, but there’s as much love as there is hair.
